Functions to be developed:

This position aims to develop a PhD with CENIT, the Innovation Unit in Transport at CIMNE, and the Port of Barcelona. The PhD will be done in collaboration with the Department of Strategy and Innovation of the Port of Barcelona and with constant interaction with all Port Community of Barcelona and other international ports. This PhD opportunity is financed by the Port of Barcelona.

 

The specific functions are as follows:

  • Research on the current status of the Blue Economy, potential synergies among all the economic sectors involved in the concept of Blue Economy, and economic assessment of Blue Economy in the economic system of the Port of Barcelona. Fostering innovation in blue economy sectors. Port innovation benchmark. These topics are indicative. Part of the function of the candidate will be to concrete the research topics in collaboration with the Ph.D. advisor and the Port of Barcelona.
  • The candidate will be working both in the offices of the Port of Barcelona and the Center for Innovation in Transport CENIT.
  • Production of scientific articles in indexed journals related to the research carried out for the doctoral thesis or postdoctoral project.
  • Publications in the Innovation Blog of the Port of Barcelona, PierNext.
  • Participation in national and international congresses during the duration of the contract
  • Collaboration in research and innovation projects with the Center for Innovation in Transport CENIT and the Port of Barcelona
  • Collaboration with the Port of Barcelona to develop a Hub of Innovation Blue Tech Port. More info: https://www.bluetechport.com/
  • Collaboration in proposals for the blue development of the Port of Barcelona.

 

Required skills:

  • Master in economy, business administration , engineering or sustainability.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English.
  • Innovation and creativity
  • Open-minded to work in innovation projects and applied research

 

Other valued skills (not mandatory):

  • Experience and knowledge of traditional Blue Economy sectors: marine living sources, non-marine living sources, port activities, shipbuilding and repair, maritime transport, coastal tourism, marine renewable energy
  • Experience or knowledge of innovative sectors within the Blue Economy: Blue biotechnology, desalination, infrastructure and robotics for bluetech, maritime defence and security
  • Scientific publications in the field of blue economy or similar.
  • Experience in international projects
  • Experience in business creation, startups, entrepreneurship, etc.
  • Other languages

 

Qualification system:

The requisites and merits will be evaluated with a maximum note of 100 points. Such maximal note will be obtained summing up the following points:

  • Academic qualifications: 15%
  • Training and development: 10%
  • Professional experience: 15%
  • Knowledge of the Catalan language: 5%
  • Knowledge of the English language: 15%
  • Selective tests and interview: 40%
