On November 4-5th the Centro Investigación en Matemáticas ( CIMAT ) in Guanajuato (Gjto. Mexico) hosted the Fifth General Meeting of the AULAS CIMNE Network.
The meeting was attended by the members of the network: UCA-CIMNE (Universidad José Simeón Cañas, El Salvador); AULA UNSa-CIMNE (Universidad Salta, Argentina; Aula FEMEC-CIMNE (Universidad Überlandia, Brazil); Aula UTFSM-CIMNE (Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, Chile); Aula ITESM-CIMNE (Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey, México); Aula UPCP-CIMNE (Pontificia Universidad Católica de Perú); Aula UC-CIMNE (Universidad Carabobo, Venezuela); Aula UCLA-CIMNE (Universidad Centro Occidental Lisandro Alvarado de Venezuela); Aula UGTO-CIMNE (Universidad de Guanajuato, México) Aula CIMAT-CIMNE (Centro de Investigación en Matemáticas, México); Aula FICH CIMNE (Universidad Nacional del Litoral, Argentina); Aula UMG-CIMNE (Universidad Mariano Gálvez de Guatemala; Aula UNER-CIMNE (Universidad de Entre Ríos, Argentina); Aula INABIO-CIMNE (Universidad Central de Venezuela); Aula EUETIB-CIMNE (ETS Ingeniería Industrial , UPC, España); Aula UPM-CIMNE (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, España)as well as attendees from Fundación CIMNE Latinoamérica (Argentina) and from CIMNE (Spain). Virtual participants present through videoconference were: CIMNE’s Director, Eugenio Oñate Ibañez de Navarra; René Meziat Aula UNIANDES-CIMNE (Universidad de los Andes, Colombia); Oscar Fruitos from Aula ETSEIAT-CIMNE (ETS Industrial i Aeronautica de Terrasa, UPC, España) and Julio Garcia Aula FNB-CIMNE (Facultad de Náutica de Barcelona, UPC, España).
In the opening session the audience was addressed by the CIMAT Director Dr. José A. de la Peña, the Rector General U. Guanajuato, Dr. José M. Cabrera, the Rector of the Guanajuato Campus, Dr. Luis Felipe Guerrero Agripino, the Director General of the Promotion of the Knowledge Economy, Lic. Omar Silva Palancares and the member of CIMNE’s Governing Board, Dr. Benjamín Suarez.
The representatives of each of the Aulas presented their research lines as well as the activities they are involved in the application of their research results in Advanced Mathematical Modeling and Computational Simulation. The Aulas deliver useful technologies for application in a wide spectrum of scenarios, such as monitoring and solving environmental issues, bioengineering devices design and production: prostheses, cardiological, and other; optimization in manufacturing processes; decision support systems in natural disasters and many other. The Aulas CIMNE work within the academic and scientific environment and also work closely with private companies and local public administration.
Further work was pursued on the meeting of the 2nd day, dedicated to internal Aulas CIMNE network organization and planning. The attendees agreed to implement actions in order to organize network projects in different lines of research. Specifically all the Aulas CIMNE present decided to participate in the preparation of a joint very innovative project to improve the teaching and training activities using the numerical methods as key tools. It is expected that in the coming months this training project involving all the Aulas in the network will be drafted and presented.
During the meeting the Aulas CIMNE groups visited the University of Guanajuato, the Aula UGTO-CIMNE (located in the University of Guanajuato) and the Aula CIMAT-CIMNE (located in CIMAT). The following pictures show each Aula CIMNE in the Guanjuato city.
The meeting was a success and presents a busy horizon: student and professor exchanges, integration projects, information dissemination and planning for future meetings. Participants were pleased with the results achieved and the future integrated plan.
