The International Centre for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE) and the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) are proud to present Bioengineering Symposium: Root Mechanics. Scientific developments and practical applications.
Ten multidisciplinary experts will convene in Barcelona to discuss the future of bioengineering as part of the ReRoot project. This effort, coordinated by CIMNE, aims to revolutionize slope stability remediation methods by harnessing the power of vegetation as a stabilizing agent.
The ReRoot project, finishing in November 2024, sought to develop, validate, and demonstrate a new computational open-source platform for modelling soil-root interaction, while also conducting multiscale targeted experiments to elucidate the connection between hydraulic and mechanical reinforcement effects.
This initiative aims to advance our understanding of bioengineering's potential for gravity-driven mass movement stabilization and disseminate this technology within the Spanish engineering community.
The symposium is organized by CIMNE's Dr. Laura Gonzalez-Blanco and Prof. Marcos Arroyo (Geomechanics RTD Group).
The one-day symposium will be divided into two parts: eight experts will give individual presentations from 9 am to 4 pm. The day will conclude with a roundtable discussion on the future of bioengineering (4.30 pm to 5.50 pm).
