Computer vision for drowning prevention

LAIF is a predictive aquatic surveillance system that works using computer vision technology. It analyses different patterns of behaviour of people in an aquatic environment and should be able to detect behaviour compatible with drowning. Once detected, it will generate an alarm for subsequent action by the emergency services.

Computer vision works by capturing images of the real environment, processing them and generating information about them.

The design and development of the software is conceived to detect cases of drowning in the aquatic environment by means of a set of cameras that broadcast in real time (without recording). Upon detection, the system will alert the response team in order to reverse the situation and save the life of the potential victim in the shortest possible time. In this way, it is presented as a necessary complement to the current water rescue services.
