Jul 14, 2022

On the 14th June of 2022, two researchers from CIMNE, Pere-Andreu Ubach and Fernando Hermosilla, attended a workshop at the European Parliament in Brussels. The workshop had the title: “La defensa de los grandes deltas europeos: el Ebro, degradación y soluciones”. During the event, CIMNE researchers presented their analysis and proposals about how to combat the accelerated erosion of the Delta de l'Ebre (Tarragona, Spain). They showed the technology of inflatable breakwaters developed by CIMNE to the attendees and explained the results of the PRODUCTE project on inflatable breakwaters for coastal sediment management.

The director of the Maritime Engineering Laboratory (LIM, according its acronym in Spanish) of the Technical University of Catalonia, Professor Agustín Sánchez-Arcilla, also participated virtually at the conference to present the objectives of the REST-COAST project.

The presentation and the proposals of the CIMNE researchers have raised great interest from the members of the delegation from Delta de l'Ebre and from the Director General for the Environment of the European Commission, Mr. Humberto Delgado Rosa. Several representatives of the civil society of the Delta de l'Ebre expressed their interest in organizing an information session and invite CIMNE researchers to Terres de l'Ebre to explain this technology in more detail.
