CENIT, CIMNE’s Innovation Unit in Transport, has just released Issue 4 of CENIT magazine: Innovation in Transport Review.
The innovation team presents insights and findings from some of their latest research, focusing on topics such as electrification in public transport systems, how 5G can help European ports achieve climate neutrality, and the impact of future mobility trends on public transport financing.
This issue emphasises the commitment of CENIT to tackle one of the most significant challenges of the 21st century: delivering efficient, sustainable transportation to communities and equipping policymakers with research-driven knowledge.
Articles in this issue
The articles featured in Issue 4 have been written by CENIT experts and reflect ongoing projects and collaborative initiatives:
-
- Electric Buses in Bali ─ Mulia Andreas, Evgenii Pronin, and Genís Majoral highlight the role of a multidimensional feasibility study in delivering evidence-based recommendations for a pilot aligned with Bali’s mobility and environmental goals, which promotes the adoption of battery-electric vehicles, including buses, for a low-emission transportation future.
- Public Transport Financing ─ Clara Soler identifies potential future mobility trends to understand their structural impact on cost, demand, and financing mechanisms.
- Jakarta’s Low Emission Zone ─ Tomi Henriquez and Stefano Braga provide insights on a phased, “learn and adapt” approach where early pilot areas deliver visible emissions and public-health benefits while informing parallel equity and economic impact studies and guiding scaled implementation across the city.
- Maritime 5G ─ Chiara Saragani explains how the pilot at the Port Authority of Barcelona is testing 5G connectivity, as part of the PIONEERS project, to support more precise vessel monitoring, improve maritime operations management, and contribute to emissions reduction.
- Blue Economy ─ Arnau Sedeño Gomez dives into the European Ocean Pact roadmap and how the measures, if successfully deployed, could bring greener, digitalised European ports, climate change resilient coasts and marine ecosystems on the path to recovery.
- RAIL4CITIES ─ Paco Gasparín and Alex Mumbrú look at how the RAIL4CITIES project is adopting a unique approach to rethinking railway stations as catalysts for sustainable and socially inclusive urban development.
- Traffic Emissions in Ports ─ Matteo Boschian introduces an innovative methodology to accurately quantify greenhouse gas emissions from road transport activities within seaports by using Automated License Plate Recognition ALPR cameras.
