On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2026, we interviewed Dr Narges Dialami, professor at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and researcher affiliated with the Solid and Fluid Simulation for Industrial Processes cluster at CIMNE.
Dr Narges Dialami discovered her passion for mathematics at a young age, a vocation that led her to study Mechanical Engineering. Although she did not have a specific role model, she explains that she always knew she wanted to decide for herself which path to follow and remain true to the kind of professional she aspired to become:
“It was a rather unusual decision at that time for a woman, but I never doubted that it was what I wanted to do.”
With a solid academic and scientific career in the field of industrial manufacturing, Dr Dialami focuses on the research of complex industrial processes, such as friction welding and additive manufacturing, a field where innovation and precision go hand in hand.
Her research has a direct impact on the optimisation and improvement of industrial processes, although she also emphasises that innovation can hardly thrive without open and diverse environments where talent can fully develop.
At CIMNE, we are committed to building an inclusive environment for engineering research, where women can thrive, lead, excel, and innovate. We promote equality, inclusion, and excellence, guided by our Equality Plan (2022–2026), the Government of Catalonia’s Gender Equality in Science Strategy, and the Catalan Science Law (2022) to foster opportunities, professional growth, and work–life balance across the entire CIMNE community.
