Successful collaboration with SLB DEVICES S.L.

The PhD student Junior Ramírez has succesfully developed, under the direction of Fernando Rastellini and José Manuel González, a numerical simulation of SLB devices for the company SLB DEVICES S.L.. The work consisted of making a digital twin to determine the energy dissipated by hysteresis loops.

The simulation aims to accurately model the mechanical contact and transmission of loads in the special joint, as well as the instability caused by window buckling and subsequent loss of stiffness. The SLB devices are designed to dissipate seismic energy by plastic shearing and have the characteristic of not transferring axial load, thanks to a special intrinsic connection in the device.

Why do we need simulation?

The numerical simulation offers a cost-effective and efficient way to design and optimize these devices. By accurately modeling the behavior of the SLB devices, it is possible to assess their performance under different loading conditions and to optimize their design for specific applications.

This is especially important for existent buildings, where the inclusion of SLB devices can help alleviate the damaging effects of possible earthquakes.

Overall, this work is an important contribution to the field of structural engineering, providing a valuable tool for designing and optimizing SLB devices to improve the safety and resilience of buildings in seismic-prone areas.
