The Aeronautics group leads research in CFD, PFEM, and fuel cells applied to aeronautics, combining simulation, optimization, and machine learning. It also collaborates in composites and smart systems for advancing sustainable aviation solutions.
The Aeronautics Research Group at CIMNE carries out cutting-edge research in the field of aeronautical engineering, focusing on simulation, optimization, and the integration of advanced technologies such as fuel cells. The group is particularly active in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), fluid-structure interaction using Particle Finite Element Methods (PFEM), and the modelling of thin membrane structures.
In addition, the team explores optimization techniques and applies machine learning to enhance engineering workflows and design processes.
A significant area of research is the development and application of hydrogen-based fuel cell systems for aviation. The group collaborates with other CIMNE teams in composite material modelling and IT systems applied to sensor networks and data-driven management.
Its multidisciplinary expertise and strong links to both academic and industrial partners support the development of innovative solutions for the next generation of sustainable and efficient aircraft technologies.
