The Pre and Post Processing (GiD) Group at CIMNE develops GiD, a universal pre and post-processing software that streamlines simulation workflows with advanced geometry, meshing, and visualization tools for science and engineering

CIMNE’s Pre- and Post-Processing (GiD) research group, integrated within the DIGIT Innovation Unit, is exclusively dedicated to the continuous development and refinement of GiD, a leading pre- and post-processing software for numerical simulations in science and engineering. GiD offers a universal, adaptive, and user-friendly environment that covers the entire simulation workflow—from geometric modelling and mesh generation to data assignment and advanced result visualization.

The group’s expertise spans computational geometry, CAD tool development, and robust mesh generation techniques, enabling efficient handling of complex models across diverse numerical methods such as finite element, finite volume, and meshless approaches. GiD’s CAD system supports NURBS surfaces, automatic geometry repair, and seamless integration with a wide range of solvers, making it highly versatile for both research and industrial applications.

A key strength of the GiD Group lies in its focus on customization and interoperability. Users can tailor the software to their specific needs, automate simulation workflows, and connect in-house or commercial solvers with ease. The group also pioneers advanced post-processing features, offering powerful 3D visualization, animation, and data export capabilities, even for large-scale, high-performance computing scenarios.

GiD is offered for both Scientific and Business purposes, offering tailored solutions for training, scientific research, and professional needs.

Through its commitment to applied innovation and technology transfer, the GiD Group empowers engineers and researchers to transform complex data into actionable insights, driving progress across multiple engineering disciplines and contributing to CIMNE’s mission of impactful digital transformation. The group leads periodical conventions, aimed at users and developers, to showcase the latest advancements of the GiD software and gather community input.
