Energy Communities & Municipalities

Innovation Unit
Building, Energy and Environment (BeeGroup)

Rolling out energy communities in existing urban environments requires several layers of energy optimization, from intelligent retrofitting strategies and model-based predictive control for groups of buildings, to dynamic and optimized energy sharing among users and the grid.
At BEE Group, we develop open-source technologies to support local governments and stakeholders in driving the energy transition through community-led processes. Our focus is on reducing uncertainties in energy balancing caused by distributed generation, user behaviour and heterogeneous consumption patterns.
We promote the implementation of integrated strategies for energy efficiency, cost savings, decarbonisation and renewable energy management. This enables municipalities to become energy-positive over time, with their annual energy consumption not exceeding their local renewable energy production.
Through an open working approach that commits to full integration of local voices, we ensure a trusted relationship with local communities. We work alongside all stakeholders in the design, testing and development of green energy solutions, ensuring the benefits of innovation cater to those who need them most.
