Demand Response (DR) empowers users with real-time, curate data to adjust their use of electricity to match availability. Users can maximize their savings through a flexible approach, reducing energy usage during peak times.

At BEE Group, we support the development of flexible and resilient energy systems by enabling demand-side management in residential blocks and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

These types of buildings are often overlooked, yet they hold great potential to provide fast, distributed flexibility, especially valuable in scenarios of grid stress or temporary blackouts.

The increasing share of variable renewable energy (VRE) in the electricity mix—such as solar and wind—demands new forms of flexibility to maintain grid balance. This is particularly critical during peak demand hours or in emergency contexts when demand curtailment or local self-balancing is essential.

We develop innovative demand response (DR) services for residential and commercial consumers, integrating smart control systems, storage, and power-to-heat strategies. Our work in real-life pilot projects like Sim4Blocks and FlexCoop demonstrates how flexible building blocks can become active participants in the energy system.

Our approach includes:

• Characterizing technical and operational flexibility in buildings.
• Enabling real-time adaptation to dynamic market signals or critical events.
• Developing DR business models and market access mechanisms tailored for non-industrial buildings.
• Supporting grid stability and resilience through local response capabilities

Residential and SME buildings are not just energy consumers—they are key assets in the future energy landscape, capable of delivering reliable and scalable flexibility.”
