Pere-Andreu Ubach speaks about inflatable breakwaters in the podcast ´Arran de mar´

Dec 29, 2022

The CIMNE researcher Pere-Andreu Ubach participated on 22th December, 2022, at the podcast titled “Arran del mar” (At sea level) by Canal Blau TV (Xarxa de Comunicació Local). During his intervention, he was interviewed about engineering solutions to avoid the disappearance of the sand on the coast of the beaches, a growing environmental problem for the upcoming 30 years.

Responding to the interviewer's questions, the researcher reviewed the problem and the solutions provided by engineering in recent decades. He also explained how intervening with permanent breakwaters had failed to solve the problem. On the other hand, he explained that a solution adapted to the natural movements of the sea can help to improve the problem and repopulate the Poseidonia flora, so characteristic of the Mediterranean coast. “The development of inflatable breakwaters allows to protect and manage the sand of the beaches and recover the Poseidonia of the litoral”, explains the researcher.
