FIBRE4YARDS Project Named Finalist in JEC INNOVATION AWARDS

Dec 5, 2024

The FIBRE4YARDS project, coordinated by the International Centre for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE), has been named a finalist in the prestigious JEC Composites Innovation Awards 2025, under the category of Maritime Transportation & Shipbuilding. These awards are recognized globally as the highest honours in the field of composite materials.

The FIBRE4YARDS project has promoted the development of ground-breaking manufacturing technologies utilizing composite materials, transforming shipyard processes with automation and modular construction techniques. Additionally, the project has introduced tools for creating a digital twin of the shipyard, enhancing production and maintenance efficiencies.

This research promises to elevate production quality, minimize environmental impact, and reduce the costs associated with composite material shipbuilding by using advanced technologies and data sharing concepts in a universal, scalable framework.

The project, involving thirteen partners from six European countries, has been coordinated by Dr. Xavier Martinez Garcia of CIMNE’s Research Cluster in Aeronautical, Naval, Automotive, and Energy Engineering.

Nine cross-cutting experts at CIMNE have taken part in the project, including researchers Dr. Julio Garcia, Dr. Daniel di Capua, Dr. Fermin Otero, Dr. Borja Serván, Dr. Rafael Pacheco, Dr. Francesc Turon, Montserrat Dolz, and Dr. Raul Rubio.

The winners will be announced on Monday, January 13, 2025.
