Dr Eugenio Oñate appointed new President of the Board of Trustees of IMDEA MATERIALS INSTITUTE

Jun 17, 2024

Dr Eugenio Oñate, CIMNE’s founder and former director, has been appointed the new President of the Board of Trustees of the IMDEA MATERIALS Institute (Madrid Institute for Advanced Materials Studies), the chapter of public research institutes supported by the Community of Madrid, specialised in the design, process, characterization, and simulation of advanced materials.

Dr Oñate, who currently holds a position as Senior Distinguished Researcher at CIMNE, joined the Scientific Committee of IMDEA MATERIALS in 2007. As Chairman of the Board of Trustees, he will lead the Institute's highest governing body, responsible for defining the research lines and long-term vision of the organisation.

The Board selected Dr Oñate for his long-standing career in the development and application of numerical methods in engineering and applied sciences, as well as his management experience as head of the International Centre for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE), which he founded in 1987 and led until 2022.
