The International Centre for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE) and Singular Aircraft have signed a letter of intent framing strategic collaboration in research, development and innovation in the aeronautical field. The document, signed on Tuesday, aims to reinforce the cooperation between advanced academic research and industrial needs, creating new opportunities for joint projects and talent development.

The letter of intent was signed during a formal visit by CIMNE to Singular Aircraft’s headquarters, located near Barcelona. The delegation was led by CIMNE’s General Director, Prof. Javier Bonet, and Singular Aircraft director, Luís Carreillo. The visit included researchers from CIMNE’s Aeronautical, Marine, Automotive and Energy Engineering research cluster, through the Composites and Advanced Materials for Multifunctional Structures (CAMMS) research group, as well as members of the Technology Transfer and Innovation team.

Through the letter, both institutions mutually commit to strengthen cooperation to support, strengthen and co-develop R&D&I activities in the aeronautical sector. Singular Aircraft will benefit from CIMNE’s scientific and technological expertise, while contributing its industrial perspective to enrich CAMMS’ research lines and strategy.

CAMMS expertise and industrial alignment

CAMMS develops advanced numerical methods and procedures for the prediction and characterization of the performance of composites and multifunctional materials, applied to large-scale structures in sectors such as aerospace, aeronautics, marine, automotive and energy. The group’s research includes structural simulation, aeronautical engineering, advanced manufacturing processes and trajectory optimisation, providing tools that can be directly aligned with the technological challenges addressed by Singular Aircraft.

Singular Aircraft’s role in the advisory committee

Within the framework outlined by the letter of intent, Singular Aircraft is invited to participate in CAMMS’ Expert Advisory Committee, a body designed to support the strategic evolution of the group. Through this participation, Singular Aircraft will provide industrial insight, market knowledge and feedback on technological trends, helping to orient research priorities and identify opportunities for innovation and competitiveness.

Shared benefits and focus on talent

The agreement allows access to advanced scientific capabilities for Singular Aircraft and enhanced industrial validation and impact for CIMNE. Both parties recognize the importance of industrial PhD programmes, master’s and bachelor’s thesis, and internships as “mechanisms to attract and retain highly qualified talent in projects of high technological and societal value”, as stated by Prof. Bonet.

The letter of intent expresses the shared will of CIMNE and Singular Aircraft to explore and promote joint initiatives in aeronautical R&D and innovation. Any specific commitments, including financial arrangements or confidentiality obligations, will be formalised in separate agreements as the collaboration progresses.
