ABSTRACT
This work has required an exhaustive review of the literature on the plan geometry of a beach with a ledge in static equilibrium. Consequently, all this knowledge is presented in an orderly and coherent way. At the same time, it has been necessary to review and improve some coefficients published in the literature in order to extend the use of the Hsu & Evans parabolic formulation to as many level curves as possible. The Dean formula for the cross-sectional profile of a beach has also been modified in order to make the fit with the known position of the top of the berm and the depth of closure. Finally, the entire formulation is presented for a numerical integration of the volumes of all the zones of a beach with only one variable, different in each zone.

Lucie François is a first-year student on the Master's Degree in Civil Engineering at the Tecnical University of Catalonia. During the civil engineering degree, she did a mobility semester at the École des Ponts ParisTech in Paris. Currently, within the framework of her final degree project, she is doing an internship at CIMNE, participating in the challenge 2 of the PIKSEL project, on the evolution of the coastline.
