On March 4, 2020, the Kick off Meeting of the «IoT Data Valuation»* project (FEM IOT group) will take place at the i2CAT facilities located on the North Campus of the UPC (Barcelona). The main objective of Fem IOT is to become a laboratory platform for the research and innovation of smart city infrastructure elements and all the resulting value-added services. CIMNE is the leader of this project and the consortium consists of BSC-CNS, i2CAT, UPC, IREC, URV, CVC, Eurecat and UPF.

The IOT (Internet of Things) is an emerging industry based on drive technologies such as high speed and high coverage connectivity, high computing power, low power consumption, data analytics and learning technologies. It is associated with social challenges such as industrial competitiveness, convenience for automation, sustainable mobility, reduction of energy consumption and digitalization of society.

It will work for controlling the energy flows on the streets and one for the intelligent traffic control and traffic control system. The developments will follow the philosophy of defined networks based on the concept of «Software Defined Networks» (SDNs), that is, (i) centralized management; (ii) complete separation of the components; (iii) open standard interfaces for communication based on programming interface applications (APIs), open source protocols and cloud computing for flexibility. Advanced data analysis algorithms will focus on indicator extraction methods for multi-variant time series and complex event classification and prediction based on artificial intelligence techniques will be developed.
