Issue 3 of CENIT’s Magazine ‘Innovation in Transport Review’ Out Now

Nov 13, 2024

CIMNE’s Innovation Unit in Transport, CENIT has released the Issue 3 of its magazine, Innovation in Transport Review.

In this issue, experts from the group present insights and findings from some of their recent research, focusing on topics such as advanced transport simulation models for sustainable urban mobility, the potential for electrification in public transport systems, and innovative solutions to help European ports achieve climate neutrality.

CENIT’s projects aim to tackle one of the most significant challenges of the 21st century: delivering efficient, sustainable transportation to communities and equipping policymakers with research-driven knowledge.

Articles in this issue

The articles featured in Issue 3 have been written by CENIT’s team members and reflect ongoing projects and collaborative initiatives:

  • SMART ANKARA Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (Turkey) ─ Mulia Andreas, Tomi Henriquez, and Genís Majoral describe the activity-based transport simulation model (Activity-Based Model) developed by CENIT to support the evaluation and definition of sustainable mobility measures in the Turkish capital.

  • PIONEERS (Portable Innovation Open Network for Efficiency and Emission Reduction Solutions) ─ Matteo Boschian Cuch looks at how this European project is addressing the challenges that European ports must overcome to achieve the European Green Deal’s primary objective of climate neutrality by 2050.

  • European Navigational Hazard Infrastructure A Collaborative Data Sharing Platform Supporting Enhanced Situation Awareness to Reduce the Risk of Collision During Navigation: Francisco Miguel Rodero Blanquez explains how the OCEAN project (Operator-Centred Enhancement of Awareness in Navigation) is helping to reduce the frequency of severe marine accidents like collision and grounding.

  • Freight Flows and Logistics Costs in Northeast Argentina: Maximising Efficiency ─ Chiara Saragani and Genís Majoral Oller present the conclusions from CENIT’s project to analyse freight flows in this key region of Argentina.

  • Decarbonising Public Transport: Insights from Fiji’s Electric Bus Project ─ Alex Mumbrú Camprubí and Genís Majoral Oller explore CENIT’s role in the GGGI-funded study on Route Prioritization for Phasing in of Electric Buses in Fiji.

  • Key Trends Shaping Urban Mobility and Future Funding Requirements ─ Clara Soler i Bañuelos dives into how public transport authorities will need to address increased financing needs in the context of breakthrough changes in urban mobility in the coming years.

  • RAIL4CITIES: Transforming Railway Stations for Green and Socially-Inclusive Cities ─ Samra Sarwar and Francesc Gasparin Casajust look at how the RAIL4CITIES project is adopting a unique approach to rethinking railway stations as catalysts for sustainable and socially inclusive urban development.
