CIMNE and CTFC Sign Collaboration Agreement to Advance Research and Knowledge Transfer

Feb 6, 2025

The International Centre for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE) and the Forest Science and Technology Centre of Catalonia (CTFC) today signed a collaboration agreement to strengthen joint research efforts and foster knowledge transfer in the fields of engineering and forestry. Both institutions are part of the CERCA network of Catalan research centres and share a commitment to innovation and sustainability.

The agreement, signed in the CIMNE premises in Barcelona, establishes a framework for cooperation in research, methodological development, and technology transfer, with a particular focus on the application of numerical methods and computational techniques to the forestry sector.

Key Areas of Collaboration

Under the agreement, both institutions will cooperate in the development and application of numerical methods in forestry-related engineering challenges, including structural wood analysis, risk prediction, modelling, and digital twins.

Researchers from both institutions will equally join forces to advancing materials science through the development of innovative construction materials, an area of applied research of interest to both CIMNE and the CTFC.

The document also speaks about knowledge exchange on technology transfer and start-up creation, leveraging CIMNE’s expertise in these areas through CIMNE Tecnología, CIMNE’s subsidiary created in 2011 to lead the centre’s technology transfer efforts.

Both institutions will as well cooperate on training opportunities, using CIMNE’s international network of labs (Aulas CIMNE).

A Strategic Partnership for Innovation

This collaboration represents a strategic step in bridging advanced computational research with forestry science, enabling the development of innovative solutions for sustainability and resilience. By combining expertise, CIMNE and CTFC aim to generate a positive societal impact, addressing key challenges in environmental management and infrastructure development.

A joint commission will oversee the implementation of the agreement, ensuring the alignment of research activities and the identification of new opportunities for collaboration.
