CIMNE Seminar -"Computational Methods for Multiphysics Problems", by Prof. Eric Feulvarch
Wednesday, February 13rd, 2018. Time: 12 noon
Place: O.C. Zienkiewicz Conference Room, C1 Building, UPC Campus Nord, Barcelona
The first part deals with the formulation for the simulation of diffusion with phase changes in solids. This part shows an overview of the computational modeling of heat transfer in steels with non-instantaneous metallurgical transformations and the diffusion of oxygen and aluminum coupled with the precipitation of alumina in a steel plate. The second part focuses on the simulation of high strain rate manufacturing processes. The presentation includes details about the formulation (finite element formulation, stabilization techniques, meshing technique, etc) for the modeling of thermomechanical couplings, with emphasis to Friction Stir Welding and the computation of residual stresses in drilling.
Eric Feulvarch is Full Professor at the CNRS Laboratory of Tribology and Systems Dynamics at the National Engineering College of Saint Etienne, France. He was graduated as a PhD at the University of Saint Etienne and worked then for the ESI Group. He is a member of the editorial board of Mathematical Problems in Engineering. His research activities deal with numerical methods development for multi-physics problems in manufacturing processes. The main domain of applications are drilling, nitriding and carbo-nitriding processes, spot welding processes, friction stir welding processes, fusion welding processes, and additive manufacturing processes. He has published more than 100 contributions in international journals and conference proceedings.
