Abstract |
The quality of life in European metropolitan areas is under pressure, which frequently causes crowd-related issues. In recent years, a few (European) universities and municipalities have developed techniques to monitor crowd movements and pro-actively manage crowded spaces using real-time decision support systems, so-called crowd monitoring decision-support systems (CM DSSs). This ad hoc and specialist pilots have shown that the liveability of the inner cities can be improved substantially. CityFlows will perform the necessary steps to prepare the first CM-DSS for the market. The most important outcomes of CityFlows are a boost of the quality of urban space in the four living labs where the system is deployed and a cloud-based crowd management decision-support system (Software as a Service). The CityFlows project establishes four city-scale demonstrator projects to illustrate the impact of the system and management strategies on the liveability of various types of crowded spaces. |
