Abstract The objective of this project is to develop a Decision Support System for the prevention and risk management of floods in urban areas. The selection of this project area is a consequence of the present interest of public administrations and the emergency agencies to manage flood events in real time. In this project we combine data from soil and landscape use maps, obtained from satellite images, with digital terrain models and numerical codes for the hydraulic analysis of floods in urban areas, that will be used to create and train an artificial intelligence module (Neural networks), able to verify in real time the risk assessment due to different flood scenarios. The risk criteria database evaluation comes from real data observed on flood events all over the world and experimental analysis made through laboratory tests, The user will have access to the whole DSS information integrated in an workspace available...
