Abstract IPAS will improve design and evaluation capabilities, whilst reducing the cost, of the installation of antennas onaircraft The objectives of l PAS are Obtain accurate predictions of antenna performance by using more representative antenna data from antenna manufacturers G Develop algorithms for scattering of waves at non-metallic and hybrid skins - not addressed at the moment despite an increasing number of airframes having composite sections of skinG Bridge the frequency gap between low and frequency codes by using hybridisation and fast methodsD Verify predictions using other codes and measurements on scaled models and full-scale airframes. Usually Manufacturers only use their own software without verification Obtain empirical formulas for coupling between antenna pairs on the opposite sides of the fuselage, applicable to the actual antennas - aids interoperability assessment Investigate the feasibility of using a novel "aero microwave" method to measure accurately the near field of antennas installed on a full-scale aircraft. Currently, the near field measurements are performed in indoor chambers and thus only very small aircraft or scaled models can be measured in most chambers Develop Codes of Practice for sitting antennas The objectives of "Strengthening Competitiveness" are met since the above measures willed Decrease the time and cost of installation of antennas on aircraft, bya. Preventing re-work of antenna sites.b. Providing the ability to use verified codes instead of scaled model and other measurements. Allowing preventative measures during the design phase, instead of corrective actions during the productionphaseG Increase accuracy of antenna spatial coverage and hence allow narrower flight paths without increasing the risk of collisions or near misses.
