CV | Roberto Flores holds a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering form the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM). His work centers on the application of numerical methods to various fields of mechanics (e.g., solid, fluids, aeroelasticity and orbital dynamics). During his period as a Ph.D. student at UPC he worked with damage models applied to the propagation of cracks in ductile materials. He also developed coupled mechanical-chemical analysis methods for cracking in aggressive environments. In 2003 he joined CIMNE, where he currently holds the position of Associate Research Professor. He has developed simulation tools for aerodynamics, structural dynamics, hydraulic networks and aeroelasticity. Among these: PUMI compressible flow solver for transonic aerodynamics. PARACHUTES software for the aeroelastic analysis of parachute/payload systems. Recently this product has been upgraded to add capabilities for the analysis of inflatable structures, including airplane hangars. Unsteady network flow solver for Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) operations in oil wells. This tool also models the transport of cuttings in order to simulate hole cleaning tasks. PUMI/Neural library for neural networks to provide reduced order modelling when coupled with the aerodynamic solvers. As a member of the aerospace group he has participated in several national and European R D projects whose results have been published in indexed journals, research publications and congresses. Notable examples are REMFI (Rear EMpennage and fuselage Flow Investigation, EU-FP6) and ALEF (Aerodynamic Loads at the Extremes of the Flight Envelope, EU-PF7). Since 2010 he has been a member of the scientific committee of the International Conference on Textile Composites and Inflatable Structures (MEMBRANES) organized by IACM (International Association of Computational Mechanics) and ECCOMAS (European Community of Computational Methods in Applied Sciences). In 2003 he joined the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC). First at the School of Civil Engineering of Barcelona, and then in the School of Industrial Engineering and Aeronautics of Terrassa (ETSEIAT), where he currently holds the position of Assistant Professor. He is currently responsible for the Advanced Aerodynamics, Advanced Aeroelasticity and Hypersonic Aerodynamics courses of the Ms.C. Program in Aerospace Engineering (MUEA). Dr. Flores is responsible for the joint CIMNE-ETSEIAT classroom which was stablished to promote the transfer of knowledge from CIMNE to the university sphere. He has also collaborated with the EETAC (School of Telecommunications and Aerospace Engineering at Castelldefels) teaching the Computational Fluid Mechanics course of the Master's degree in Aerospace Science and Technology (MAST). He was appointed reviewing expert for AIDIT (joint UPC-UPM accreditation agency for RD) in 2006. In 2009 he became head of the Aeronautics area, being in charge of the assignment of experts, supervision of the evaluations and final approval as member of the technical committee. In 2014 he was appointed Evaluation Specialist and member of the Certification Committee of ACIE (Spanish Innovation Certification Agency) and Expert Evaluator of Acerta Certification Ltd. |
