The CityFlows project, financed by the EIT Urban Mobility and in conjunction with Barcelona City Council and Delft University, <\/span>aims to play a<\/span> pivotal role and improve the <\/b>economic and social functioning of our 21st century cities in a pandemic scenario<\/b>.\u00a0 The overall goal is to<\/span> improve the liveability of crowded pedestrian spaces <\/b>through the provision of decision-support for the management of pedestrian flows.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

CENIT\u00b4s Paco Gaspar\u00edn explains more \u201cOur CityFlows project<\/span> tests and evaluates various innovative crowd monitoring techniques in real-life settings where large crowds meet, such as mass events, tourist spaces and transfer hubs<\/b>. Moreover, the CityFlows project prepares a unique crowd management decision support system for market launch which incorporates these state-of-the-art monitoring techniques.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Gaspar\u00edn continues \u201cIn fact last month we just ran a<\/span> 5 day pilot in Barcelona\u00b4s Park Guell<\/b> which we\u00b4re delighted to report has been a great success and provided the team with further data and valuable insights\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Intertwining health and mobility<\/b> CityFlows will develop a toolkit that allows City Councils to determine the <\/span>most effective safety measures to be taken into account for crowd control in urban areas<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Latin American Development Bank report highlights the current investment gap in the region and reviews intervention strategies to tackle future challenges and trends<\/h3>\r\n[\/fusion_text][fusion_text columns=\"\" column_min_width=\"\" column_spacing=\"\" rule_style=\"default\" rule_size=\"\" rule_color=\"\" hide_on_mobile=\"small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility\" class=\"\" id=\"\"]\r\n\r\nIncreased and sustained investment in infrastructure is of paramount importance for economic growth in any region, and nowhere is this truer than in the Latin American region where inconsistent and insufficient investment<\/strong> was noted as the main cause of slower economic growth<\/strong> during the mid-term period 2007-2012. Falling investment in transport infrastructure and logistics has had a knock-on effect on the commercial development of the region as a whole.\r\n\r\nThe Latin American Development Bank, founded 50 years ago, recently funded an investment analysis study of the region\u00b4s intercity land transport sector, focusing specifically on road and rail. Irene de Cubas, CENIT\u00b4s Research Engineer for the report explains\r\n\r\n\"We know there is a direct correlation between a country or region\u00b4s GDP and transport infrastructure. In fact, Latin America<\/strong> is an extreme case, having a very limited transport network in relation to land area and population.
