Ceremony for presenting Professor Eugenio Oñate with a diploma and the mantle of the Honorary Doctor in Sciences of SPbPU<\/span><\/p>\n

On November 17th, 2021, the Peter the Great Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU)<\/a><\/strong> presented the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Sciences (Honoris Causa) to Eugenio Oñate<\/strong>, a professor at the School of Civil Engineering of the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC)<\/strong><\/a> and director of CIMNE.<\/p>\n

The Honorary Doctorate distinction was approved by the Academic Council of SPbPU on December 28th, 2020,<\/strong> following the proposal from the High School of Mechanics and Control directed by Professor Alexei Borovkov<\/strong>. The formal ceremony was postponed due to the Covid19 pandemic. The Honorary Doctorate was presented by Professor Andrei Rudskoy<\/strong>, rector of SPbPU.<\/p>\n

The Peter the Great Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University was founded in 1899. It has hosted some of the more prominent scientists in the field of structural and continuum mechanics such as Stephen Timoshenko,<\/strong> Boris Galerkin<\/strong> and Ivan Bubnov<\/strong>. Seven of his alumni received the Nobel Prize.<\/strong><\/p>\n

After the official ceremony Prof. Oñate delivered a lecture at a conference hall on: “Past, present and future of numerical methods in engineering”. The lecture was attended by academics, PhD students and Postdocs of the university.<\/p>\n
