The event hosted a tribute to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cimne.com\/sgp\/dir\/Profile.aspx?id=518\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Eugenio O&ntilde;ate Profile\"><strong>Professor Eugenio O&ntilde;ate<\/strong><\/a>, founder of CIMNE and general director of the centre until 2022.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 1.2em\"><strong>The technical session reviewed the state of the art of the discipline.<\/strong> For this purpose, it counted with the participation of outstanding <strong>speakers both linked to CIMNE and the UPC as well as international experts.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cimne.com\/cvdata\/cntr2\/spc2\/dtos\/mdia\/News\/tribute-eo1-2.jpg\" alt=\"Tribute to Eugenio O&ntilde;ate\" style=\"padding-bottom: 5px\" width=\"768\" \/><br \/><span class=\"cimne green\">Attendees to the technical session<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">The opening of the session was in charge of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cimne.com\/sgp\/dir\/Profile.aspx?id=2184\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Javier Bonet\"><strong>Professor Javier Bonet<\/strong><\/a>, General Director of CIMNE since May 2022, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cimne.com\/sgp\/dir\/Profile.aspx?id=375\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Miguel Cervera\"><strong>Professor Miguel Cervera<\/strong><\/a>, Head of the Structural Mechanics Division. The event was divided in three sessions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.2em;padding-bottom: 5px\"><strong>Session 1 &#8211; International perspective<\/strong>, chaired by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cimne.com\/sgp\/dir\/Profile.aspx?id=454\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Antonio Huerta\"><strong>Professor Antonio Huerta<\/strong><\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ikm.uni-hannover.de\/en\/wriggers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Peter Wriggers\"><strong>Peter Wriggers<\/strong><\/a> (Hannover University, Germany), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmbm.unipd.it\/members\/pages\/schrefler.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Bernhard Schrefler\"><strong>Bernhard Schrefler<\/strong><\/a> (Universit&agrave; di Padova, Italy) and <a href=\"https:\/\/science.gmu.edu\/directory\/rainald-lohner\" title=\"Rainald Lohner\"><strong>Rainald Lohner<\/strong><\/a> (George Mason University, USA) were the speakers of the first session.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.2em;padding-bottom: 5px\"><strong>Session 2<\/strong><strong> &#8211; <\/strong><strong>Computational Mechanics at the Barcelona School of Civil Engineering<\/strong> was chaired by <a href=\"https:\/\/futur.upc.edu\/EstherRealSaladrigas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Esther Real\"><strong>Esther Real<\/strong><\/a>, Director of the Barcelona School of Civil Engineering. This part consisted of three presentations, the first one by the chair of the session and the others two talks were given by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cimne.com\/sgp\/dir\/Profile.aspx?id=628\" title=\"Xavier S&agrave;nchez-Vila\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Xavier Sanchez-Vila<\/strong><\/a>, Head of Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cimne.com\/sgp\/dir\/Profile.aspx?id=514\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Xavier Oliver\"><strong>Xavier Oliver<\/strong><\/a>, Professor of Continuum Mechanics and Structural Analysis.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-size: 1.2em;padding-bottom: 5px\"><strong>Session 3 &#8211; Computational Mechanics at CIMNE <\/strong>was chaired by Professor Javier Bonet and the speakers were the following ones: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ca.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ferran_Falc%C3%B3_i_Isern\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Ferran Falc&oacute;\">Ferran Falc&oacute;<\/a><\/strong>, Vice President of CIMNE; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cimne.com\/sgp\/dir\/Profile.aspx?id=456\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Sergio Idelson\"><strong>Sergio Idelsohn<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cimne.com\/sgp\/dir\/Profile.aspx?id=596\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Francisco Z&aacute;rate\"><strong>Francisco Z&aacute;rate<\/strong><\/a>, Research Professors of Computational Mechanics; and closed the session <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cimne.com\/sgp\/dir\/Profile.aspx?id=422\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Anna Font\"><strong>Anna Font<\/strong><\/a>, Managing Director of CIMNE.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cimne.com\/cvdata\/cntr2\/spc2\/dtos\/mdia\/News\/tribute-eo2.jpg\" alt=\"Javier Bonet and Eugenio O&ntilde;ate\" style=\"padding-bottom: 5px\" width=\"768\" \/><br \/><span class=\"cimne green\">Professors Javier Bonet (left) and Eugenio O&ntilde;ate (right) during the event<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">During the event, the professor&#039;s professional career was reviewed. <strong>The perseverance, the great capacity for work and the close and people-focused character of Professor Eugenio O&ntilde;ate were highlighted<\/strong> by the speakers of the event. <\/p>\n<p>An<strong> special reception<\/strong> was offered by the attendees to the Eugenio O&ntilde;ate&#039;s arrival of the event, as can be seen in the video below.
