The International Centre for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE<\/strong>) yesterday celebrated the official opening of its <\/span>research facilities in Lleida<\/b>, an office and lab space within Lleida’s <\/span>Agrobiotech research park<\/b><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The new facilities, opened in 2022, host the centre’s<\/span> Building, Energy, and Environment<\/i><\/b> Innovation Unit<\/b> (<\/span>BEE Group<\/span><\/a>), a highly-specialized team working on big data and artificial intelligence solutions to reduce building energy consumption.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lleida city mayor, Mr. <\/span>Felix Larrosa<\/b>, joined CIMNE’s director Dr. <\/span>Javier Bonet<\/b>, Managing Director, Ms. <\/span>Anna Font<\/b>, and BEE Group leader, Dr. <\/span>Jordi Cipriano<\/b>, in the opening ceremony, which was also attended by Agrobiotech Park’s director, Mr. <\/span>Miquel Aran<\/b>, and Mr. <\/span>Roberto García González<\/b>, deputy to the Vice-Rectorate for Knowledge Transfer at the University of Lleida.<\/p>\n

In Dr. Bonet’s words, the new facilities will leverage BEE Group’s potential to “working at the intersection of artificial intelligence and energy management”, offering “tangible solutions” for researchers, organizations, and society to “<\/span>address the energy transition challenge<\/b>”.<\/span><\/p>\n

CIMNE’s BEE Group research lines span <\/span>different facets of energy efficiency<\/b>, ranging from demand-response solutions, user behaviour tools, big data analytics, biodigester technology, and energy community management.<\/span><\/p>\n

The group was founded in 2001 as an autonomous research department at CIMNE and has led or take part in dozens of international research and technology transfer projects, including <\/span>five <\/b>spin-off companies.<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n

The BEE Group team is formed by 2<\/strong><\/span>0 multidisciplinary experts<\/b>, between staff scientists, research engineers, postdocs, PhD students, and collaborators.<\/span><\/p>\n
