More than 9 out of 10 participants<\/strong> in <\/span>CIMNE\u2019s Winter School 2024<\/span><\/a>, which introduced PhD students into the basics of Computational Methods, say they found the topics covered in the course \u201cvery interesting\u201d<\/strong>, and would attend a similar workshop organised by the CIMNE School<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The week-long workshop, held in January 2024, offered a first look at fundamental aspects of computational methods<\/strong>, such as linear algebra, continuum mechanics or the basics of FEM (Finite Element Method). Top researchers from the International <\/a><\/strong><\/span>Centre for Numerical Methods in Engineering<\/span><\/a><\/strong> (CIMNE) led theoretical and practical sessions as part of the <\/span>Severo Ochoa Programme<\/span> of Excellence<\/span> at the centre.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to self-reported, anonymised data collected by CIMNE, 92% of participants surveyed agreed that the teachers were knowledgable<\/strong>\u00a0of the courses they taught, while 85% said they learned from them<\/strong>. All respondents said they would recommend the course to a colleague.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In a public online<\/a> note, Masters student and course participant Andreas Wanninger<\/a> described the workshop as \u201cinspiring and eye-opening\u201d<\/strong>, and recommended the CIMNE School to \u201canyone wanting to get into computational mechanics.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0 Civil engineer and fellow course participant Christian A. Padilla<\/strong> said<\/a> it was \u201cvery motivating\u201d to learn from \u201ctop level researchers\u201d<\/strong>, an experience that \u201cbrings [him] closer\u201d to his career goals<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dozens of students attended the third edition of CIMNE\u2019s Winter School online and in-person at CIMNE\u2019s headquarters in Barcelona from January 22 to 26. Participants delved into the theoretical framework and use cases of computational methods’ technology by renowned CIMNE experts <\/span>including professors <\/span>Riccardo Rossi<\/span><\/a><\/strong>, <\/span>Sergio Zlotnik<\/span><\/a><\/strong>, <\/span>Jordi Pons-Prats<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Lucia Barbu<\/span><\/a><\/strong>, and <\/span>Xavier Martinez<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
