Time:<\/span>&nbsp;15h<\/p>\n<p><button class=\"btn btn-default\"><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/XFnWljFX3Ec\" style=\"color: white;font-weight: bold\">See video<\/a><\/button><\/p>\n<h5 class=\"cimne blue-background\" style=\"padding-left: 15px;float: none\">ABSTRACT<\/h5>\n<p>Challenge 3 of the Pi-Plates project aims to design objectives tools to help air quality managers in a given region to predict the incidence of episodes when tropospheric ozone immission concentration exceeds the legal concentration limits of ozone.<\/p>\n<p>This tool is based on the use of data analysis models, based on <strong>Machine Learning (ML) techniques<\/strong>. The models developed are fed by the series of data from the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.meteocat.gencat.cat\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"METEOCAT\"><strong>Catalan Meteorological monitoring network (METEOCAT)<\/strong><\/a> and the <strong>Air Quality monitoring network (XVPCA)<\/strong> distributed throughout the territory of Catalonia. Moreover, a synoptic classification (of types of Synoptic maps) is being developed in this project from the reanalysis maps distributed by ERA 5, introducing thus the synoptic forcing in the developed models.<\/p>\n<p>Based on these data, we are building the <strong>models to predict two parameters of special relevance at the time of monitoring risk levels for atmospheric pollution:<\/strong> the maximum hourly O3 and the &#039;maximum daily 8 h concentration. These models will be elaborated thorough all the relevant stations of air quality, and later the results will be extrapolated to the level of the whole of Catalonia.<\/p>\n<h5 class=\"cimne blue-background\" style=\"padding-left: 15px;float: none\">SPEAKERS CV<\/h5>\n<p>Dr. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cimne.com\/sgp\/dir\/Profile.aspx?id=1018\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Cecilia Soriano\"><strong>Cecilia Soriano<\/strong><\/a> has a degree in Physics from the <strong>University of Barcelona (UB)<\/strong> and a<strong> PhD in Physics<\/strong> from the <strong>Technical University of Catalonia (UPC)<\/strong>, having completed a predoctoral stay during which she was hired at <strong>Los Alamos National Laboratory (NM, US)<\/strong> as Graduate Research Assistant. Her research interests are meteorology, air pollution modelling, and atmospheric remote sensing with Lidar, in addition to environmental engineering.<\/p>\n<p>She has held a position as interim professor at the <strong>Schools of Industrial Engineering and Architecture of the UPC<\/strong> (Department of Applied Mathematics and Department of Physics and Nuclear Engineering), to later move to the private sector, first as Head of Atmospheric Projects in <strong>TYPSA-TECNOMA<\/strong>, and later as a <strong>Freelance consultant in Environmental Engineering projects<\/strong>, especially developing projects on air quality and dispersion of pollutants and odors.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Eva M.
