{"id":240934,"date":"2023-12-15T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-12-14T23:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cimne.com\/sin-categoria\/prof-eugenio-onate-receives-icaro-award-from-university-of-a-coruna\/"},"modified":"2025-09-22T09:23:18","modified_gmt":"2025-09-22T07:23:18","slug":"prof-eugenio-onate-receives-icaro-award-from-university-of-a-coruna","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cimne.com\/ca\/prof-eugenio-onate-receives-icaro-award-from-university-of-a-coruna\/","title":{"rendered":"Prof. Eugenio O\u00f1ate receives ICARO Award from University of A Coru\u00f1a"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">CIMNE&rsquo;s founding director and scientific director of the Severo Ochoa Programme of Excellence, <strong>Professor <\/strong><\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cimne.com\/eo\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">Eugenio O&ntilde;ate<\/span><\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">, has been awarded the <strong>2023 <\/strong><\/span><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gme.udc.es\/en\/initiatives\/icaro-award\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">ICARO Award<\/span><\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\"> by the Structural Mechanics Group of the School of Civil Engineering of the <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/caminos.udc.es\/hosting\/web\/\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">University of A Coru&ntilde;a<\/span><\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\"> (UDC) for his &#8220;outstanding research achievements&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">Dr. O&ntilde;ate (Val&egrave;ncia, 1953) has a<strong> long academic and research career<\/strong> spanning more than 35 years at the forefront of numerical methods and their application to engineering and structural mechanics at the <\/span><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.upc.edu\/?set_language=en&amp;\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">Technical University of Catalonia<\/span><\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\"> (UPC), where he was Director of the School of Civil Engineering (1983-1989). Prof. O&ntilde;ate was the founder director of CIMNE in 1987, and the founder and first president of the Spanish Society of Numerical Methods in Engineering (1989&ndash;2004)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">Prof. O&ntilde;ate&#039;s scientific contributions and the software derived from his research are of <strong>particular relevance for solving multidisciplinary problems<\/strong> in civil, industrial, aerospace, marine and naval engineering, among others. He obtained his <strong>PhD in civil engineering<\/strong> from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swansea.ac.uk\/\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">Swansea University<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">, Wales, UK, in 1979 and is a civil engineer from the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.upv.es\/index-en.html\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">Technical University of Val&egrave;ncia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\"> (1975).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cimne.com\/cvdata\/cntr2\/spc2\/dtos\/mdia\/News\/Onate_ICARO_CIMNE.jpg\" alt=\"Professor O&ntilde;ate being handed the ICARO award\" \/><br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\"><br \/>The 2023 ICARO Award was presented on November 24 in an award ceremony at the University of A Coru&ntilde;a and also recognized Ms. Ethel V&aacute;zquez, Minister of Infrastructures and Mobility of the Government of Galicia (Spain).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1.2em\">The ICARO award was first honoured in 2006 after the initiative of Prof. Santiago Hernandez, leader of the Structural Mechanics Group at UDC.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CIMNE&rsquo;s founding director and scientific director of the Severo Ochoa Programme of Excellence, Professor Eugenio O&ntilde;ate, has been awarded the 2023 ICARO Award by the Structural Mechanics Group of the School of Civil Engineering of the University of A Coru&ntilde;a (UDC) for his &#8220;outstanding research achievements&#8221;.
