CIMNE’s Director, Dr. Javier Bonet<\/a><\/strong>, has been awarded the prestigious Grand Prize 2023<\/strong> from the Japan Society for Computational Engineering and Science (JSCES<\/strong><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n

JSCES awarded Dr. Bonet the organization's top recognition as a testament to his outstanding career in computational and numerical methods<\/strong>. Dr. Bonet’s work accounts for significant advances in nonlinear solid mechanics<\/strong>, such as Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) and stabilized Finite Element and Finite Volume techniques.<\/span><\/p>\n

The award ceremony was held at the Kobe International Conference Center in Kobe-shi, Hyogo, on June 11 as part of JSCES' 29th Conference on Computational Engineering and Science<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The event included Dr. Bonet’s lecture <\/span>“First order conservation law formulations in solid dynamics: applications to dynamic crack propagation, contact mechanics and stable SPH discretizations”<\/span><\/i><\/strong>, where CIMNE’s director described the latest advances in the novel conservation-based formulation of solid and structural dynamics developed by him and co-authors Antonio J. Gil, and Chun Hean Lee.<\/span><\/p>\n

With over 110 publications accounting for more than 6,000 citations, Dr. Bonet stands as a leading voice in the field of numerical methods<\/strong>. Before joining the International Centre for Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE<\/a>) as a director in 2022, Dr. Bonet served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research & Enterprise, at the University of Greenwich in London.<\/span><\/p>\n

With a strong background in civil engineering, Dr Bonet was previously appointed Professor of Computational Engineering and Head of the College of Engineering at Swansea University in Wales<\/strong>, the same university where he defended his doctoral thesis under the supervision of Prof O.C. Zienkiewicz.<\/p>\n
